AmeriCorps is the federal agency connecting individuals and organizations to tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges. Programs:

AmeriCorps VISTA: VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) provides indirect service for organizations by creating and implementing programs.

AmeriCorps State and National: provide direct service to the organization to effectively utilize volunteers to meet critical community needs.

Positions at Lynchburg Habitat: 

• Construction Crew Leader – 10.5-month commitment: Learn how to build a Habitat house. This position is on the build sites Tuesday-Saturday helping with volunteers and all construction tasks over the course of the builds. Learn more HERE! Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education, and site monitoring.
  • Benefits:

How to join

To join Habitat AmeriCorps, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older, and have a high school diploma or GED. There may be additional requirements that will be noted on each individual posting.

Application process:

• Search open positions on Habitat for Humanity International, apply, and include your resume with the application.
• If qualified, you will interview with staff from the local Habitat affiliate.
• If selected, accept the verbal offer and complete the pre-enrollment requirements.
• Begin service with your local Habitat organization.
